If you will not be in GA you may still show your love & support to the Griffins during this very difficult time.  Please go to this link to see how you can show how much Zak meant to the SEQuads family

Re: Your prayers are requested ...........#23

Hi guys, this is Gary, It has taken me a few days before I could think straight since this terrible loss of Our friend happened. I dont know if any of you guys know it, but Scott and Zak were actually pitting with Danny and I this weekend. Danny and Zak were having a colddrink together before the moto and  John helmic and I built his engine for him on friday mornng, Everytime we werent racing we were together.  I didnt see the accident and was unaware of what happened untill after the end of the moto.

I am in close contact with Scott and he wants to thank the SEQUADS family for being so supportive for him, He is truly overwhelmed with all of the love and compassion for him and his wife in this sad time. As Karen stated we will be going to the funeral, then down to Echeconnee.

For those of you that dont know what kind of a man Scott is, hours after he left the track he called me up just so he could get in contact with another rider who was involved, and they actually talked and Scott comforted that young man in his time of loss.

Everytime I look at Danny I take a good look and let him know that I love him very much and I am letting him know that if he wants to race or not, I want it to be his decision, too many times We parents tend to put our plans and goals before or childrens, and I want him to know that it is his decision. In no way am I saying that I think Scott made  Zak race, I know that Zak loved to race, just ask his parents, what I am saying is this accident has really put some things into perspective.

I have been struggling with this because My own father was at the race and he witnessed the accident and He had been visiting with the Griffins before the moto and gotten to know them, And the only way I could justify staying in the sport was to show my father the love and closeness our family and of the ATV family, And I had a customer come up to me on monday, unaware of the accident and he was watching me unload our trailer and he said  that he "envied me and thought I had it figured out", I just looked at him and he explained that He had 2 kids, and the whole time that they were growing up he had too little time to spend with them and now that they are grown he regrets not geting envolved in something they all could have enjoyed together. These things along with a long talk with my father and my lord make it easier for me to load up for the next race.  We will miss Zak very much. Gary

I am very sorry that I will not be able to attend the funeral, please send my condolences to the Griffins. Seems I have strep throat again.

Will you have the stickers at estes?

Re: Your prayers are requested ...........#23

I apologize for not posting here any sooner.  Patty and I have been trying to let things settle down and get our heads clear before we post or respond to the outreach our friends and family been pouring out.  Where do I start...Zak loved racing...he loved the sport...he loved the races and the folks we got to meet.  When all this happened in Florida..without the support of the Cooper's...I would not have gotten thru it...Karen was at the hospital with me..without her being there  I would have been lost.  Gary had my trailer packed and ready for me to roll out when I returned from the hospital.  Needless to say..there were a lot of tears shed and hugging going on.  Folks I didnt even know were offering plane tickets...or to drive me home...what ever I wanted or needed the ATV family was there for me. I decided to drive home to clear my head and my friends from GA found out about it and called me non stop until I pulled into the driveway.  I talked to the boy who was involved in the accident on the drive home to make sure he wasnt blaming himself for the accident.

I really cant descibe it...we are truely overwhelmed at the support of the ATV community...the SEQUAD community....and everyone involved.  The auctions that occured at Florida and this past weekend were unreal..I still dont think it has set in yet. I kept having to walk away from it in GA because I was overwhelmed with pride and emotion at the outpouring the ATV community showed. WHere are the newspapers when somethig like that occurs?

Danny..and Wesley were wearing the Shirts that were made for Zak...along with John Natalie...Josh West...Billy Cottage...and a few other riders...(sorry if I left someone out...) I dont know if anyone noticed..but when the youth production class started up...the clouds cleared for a little while...I think Zak wanted to see the race...lol.  THere were #23 stickers everywhere...I have more coming so anyone that wants one will have one...thanks to all flying the #23 on thier quads.

I am rambling on a bit...but let me end with this...those of us who race..have kids that race..or just atv riders as a whole..are a family that comes together in times of need.  I saw it at the JS 98 Race..and have experienced it first hand now..and know this..there is comfort and peace in knowing that we are associated with people like you all.  I am humbled by it all.

    Scott and Patty,

We were happy to have met you.

Billy was so glad to have met Zak (another rider from the spastic team) in Florida.

We just got home from Budds Creek MD and wanted you to know we were thinking about you.

As you know we take our two kids every weekend to race i can't even imagine what it would feel like to come home with out one of them.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you always.

SEQuads received this note along with a donation for Zak's fund from CA.

"I was saddened to hear that a fellow racer lost his life doing what he loved. I was encouraged by all the nice things that I read on the posts about Zak and his family and to see the different ways that the ATV community came together. I race in California and wanted to send something to show support to the family and Zak.  If possible, when you have time, can you please send me a sticker so that I may put some on my race bike and also on our tow vehicle in memory of Zak.

    Thanks,

    Robert Dielissen"

Here is another tribute to Zak that I came across today.  There is an article on ATVA Online with Krista Marie.  Some of you may remember her from the memorial race at Warrior, she came down from Nashville for it and sang the national anthem.  Krista was parked near us in the pits at Gatorback and was moved by what she saw, she wrote a song on her way home from FL, part of the proceeds go to Zak's memorial fund.
