For our 2008 Series we are going to try a different strategy for awards. We will no longer  provide awards at each race. We plan to provide all SEQuads members with large  plaques with spaces for each race result, and a space for the overall season finishing position. If you don not wish to join SEQuads but still want to race that is fine, but you will not receive any awards.  We have put much thought into this and feel this is the best way to reward our members and still allow people to participate who are not members. If you have any questions about this please feel free to ask.

Ken, maybe you should still provide a small trophy for the kids classes.(just a little, say 4 or 5 inch tall one) The trophy is a big deal to a 5, 6, or 7 year old.(and their parents too) Just a thought.

Youth and talent are no match for age and treachery

We would like to hear from some of our mini parents on this. Please if anyone has an opinion let us know. We are very limited as to the money we have to provide trophies for each race, but at the same time we don't want to alienate anyone. The only way we can make the right decision is with input from our riders and parents. I am thinking of it along the lines of other youth sports (soccer, baseball and such) you don't get a trophy for every game you just get your award at the end of the year.

You are thinking of team sports / field games with multiple players on the same team competing at the same time.

Motocross racing and any other form of racing is more of an individual competition. I don't know of any racing competition that does not present some type of reward at the end of the contest.

I personally think not giving a plaque out to the top finishers is a bad idea. Maybe only the top 3 riders in each class should recieve a plaque. If you have three riders or less in the class then only the top two riders will receive a plaque.

I would standardize the plaques so you wouldnt be stuck with extra plaques with the individual track names on them,. For example all the plaques should say something like..

             SEQUADS 2008

            1ST PLACE

            2ND PLACE

            3RD PLACE

By the way I think most people would prefer a plaque over a trophy. I would assume a trophy is more expensive.

Plaques are generally more expensive than plaques plus you have to have someone to do the artwork. You will still get a plate, similar to what is on each trophy,from each race.The large Plaques will have a spot for each race's placard to post your finishing result.We have some old plaques laying around from years of racing that we could replace the artwork with to provide for the children's classes.  Billy, do you think you could get us some artwork designed?

So, do you basically get a plaque when you join and then a small metal plate from each race with your finishing position(1-5 i would assume). Handing out a small engraved plate that says "1st Place" would definitely be cheaper than a full trophy. Sure, we can tool up artwork and use a pic from some of the little guys. They should get a trophy each race.

Yes you will get a large plaque when you join,but you will get a plate for the plaque regardless of finishing position. Even if you finish 15th you will get a plate that says 15t. That way if you are devoted to the entire series you will have something to show for each entry.

Dalton said he would donate alot of his old trophys for the mini classes. If other people would do that you might get enough for at least this year. You could just change the metal name plate for the younger kids classes. We have way too many trophys collecting dust. I'm not saying give up the important ones, just trophys from local races you've collected over the years like us. Some type of plague or trophy is important to the younger kids. Just my.02

Being a parent , I like the idea of a single plaque for the year ... we are running out of spaces to put all of our kids's trophys and plaques. With that said my kids still love to get a trophy ! Bottom line is we will support what the leaders feel to be most advantageous to the series . I do think all children should get a trophy or plaque for participation in at least their "first race" with our series, I know new or first time racers are excited about and expecting a trophy. If every kid will get a plate at every race , then they will have something to take home and show off to the grandparents etc ( a prize is a prize to a kid it does not really matter what it is). My kids have gotten little metals and some races and they think it is more special than a trophy , just because they are uncommon , I am sure they dont cost as much as a trophy though.

I personally like the idea of getting one big plaque w/ individual plates on it at the end of the series, but I think maybe some, like the younger kids, appreciate getting an award from each event.  Im not familiar w/ the prices of plaques or trophies but I know it adds up....what about handing out a ribbon/medal at each event, maybe just to the mini classes or something?  Just a thought...... but I look forward to the large plaque w/ individual event listings. (Question:  On the large plaque will the small plates list just the finishing position, or possibly the track name and date?)

This sounds like a great idea im definately in seeing how ill be at every race this season God willing. I say give the little guys medals. My little cousin raced at bremen a few times and he got a metal everytime. It was a real class act and even took them to show and tell! We could even have a ceremony(this may take it a little far) like at the nationals. Spray them down with those bottles of juice that look like wine haha! Either way im down for it.
